subway cars

“17 is about getting in the car with your friends and singing along to the radio as you are headed wherever, and it’s about sunsets with mosquito bites and waking up just to catch the sunrise at the park. It’s about walking down the endless train tracks in the summer sun and painting yourself more than you manage to paint walls. It’s about trampolines and lemon bars and fresh squeezed orange juice. It’s about big dreams and blue skies and yellow cars that will take you away to anywhere. It’s about best friends and promises and two plane tickets to Prague. It’s about crying because you’re happy or because your sad and dancing in the rain and being ridiculously proud of people you’ll probably never meet and having too many deep thoughts and not enough silly ones to balance it out half the time. It’s about song lyrics that are all about running away, and bright tomorrows, and running down the path to find yourself. It’s about your time being now. 17 is about seishun. It’s the golden age.”

…looking back, for me, 17 was about holding on to a dream, even even for no more than a heartbeat.

and that dream died, at 18. i see that now. that dream died. but i think. i think there was another dream waiting for me :)

we keep moving
crowded like subway cars
on & on
to the beat of our noisy hearts
